May 7 (Day 51) - Hampton, TN to Iron Mountain Shelter

Bob Peoples drove Wild Willy, Artemis Brown, and me from Kincora to the trailhead, early this morning.  However, upon our arrival, we found that the water level of the lake had risen, submerging much of the trail.  Wild Willy headed south, back toward Kincora, and another hiker, Spam, joined us on our northbound journey.  Spam had already thru-hiked in 2012, but he was reliving the trail for two weeks and headed to Trail Days in Damascus.

Bob drove us to a reroute, and we began hiking.  Unfortunately, parts of the trail ahead were also submerged, and we went off trail to circumvent the water.

Along the way, I met a mother and daughter, Squatch and Yeti, hiking the trail.  And, I journeyed with them to Watauga Dam.  Otherwise, I spent much of the day hiking alone and reached Iron Mountain Shelter just before a heavy downpour.
